Jason Newsted and The Chophouse Band

January 28th 2017

Thank you to everyone who joined us Saturday January 28th 2017 when we hosted Jason Newsted and the Chophouse Band for a benefit concert at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Tequesta. The money we raised from this show will go directly to the Sue Cunningham Memorial Fund.

The Chophouse band began in 1992 when Grammy Award winning, Hall of Fame bassist Jason Newsted founded Chophouse Records Studio in San Francisco.

Following the success of Metallica’s 1991 black album, The Chophouse Studio was conceived by Newsted to assemble friends and comrades from other established acts and groups, to have a special place to enjoy chasing ideas and sounds. Having fun playing pure and wild music on breaks and downtime, mixing up wicked musical soup away from rigorous touring schedules and agendas.

Now, after 25 years of playing host to a diverse array of talent from varying genres, The Chophouse Band is finally offering a sampling of the musical flavors that have been cooking in these exclusive sessions and personal projects.

The Chophouse Band is led by Newsted, playing acoustic guitars & performing lead vocal, accompanied by close friends/musicians of all walks & styles, sharing some great American songs from familiar & unfamiliar heroes.

The members of The Chophouse Band reside from coast to coast, including; Chris Barnett, Kevin Cripanuk, Zak Hoffman, Joe Ledesma, David Lopez, Jesus Mendez, Chris Peet, Brian Sagrafena, Chris Scianni, JP Soars, Micah Scott, Amir Tal, & Rob Tucker!!! These and many others may be featured at any given appearance of… JASON NEWSTED AND THE CHOPHOUSE BAND

All money raised by the Church of the Good Shepherd through your generous donations will go to the Sue Cunningham Memorial Fund.

Micah Scott, opening for Verlon Thompson

January 29th, 2017

Micah Scott is a singer/songwriter with a minor prophet’s name who was raised in a small northern New York State town with Revolutionary War bones in its fields. He counts as seminal influences Muddy Waters, Big Bill Broonzy, Mississippi John Hurt and John Fahey.

An attraction to Piedmont and Delta sounds and family ties drew... him south to Florida. Armed with an honors degree from the Crane School of Music, Micah began getting roots-music cred playing every gig he could. Dim, greasy dive bars. Then more upscale blues clubs; and finally, music festivals. Seven years later, he co-founded a popular South Florida band called The KillBillies, which enjoys a mighty grass-roots following along the coast. In 2016, Micah made his first album, Dark Horse, on a break from an East Coast solo tour. It was recorded over three weeks in Philadelphia—another place steeped in American history. The album debuted at #1 on the Amazon Roots-Rock chart, and the single, Step Outta Line, came in at #1 on the Amazon Alt-Country and Americana chart.

Verlon Thompson, Sunday 29, 2017

Jason Newsted and the Chophouse Band, Saturday 28, 2017

Both shows went to honor and benefit the legacy of Sue Cunningham

Three time Florida Fiddle Champion Sue Cunningham who lived in Jupiter, passed away on September 3rd 2015 after a lengthy illness.

Sue was instrumental in getting the Showcase Series at Good Shepherd started and she performed twice previously with her former band the Rowan Cunningham Band and one other time with her friends The Harris Brothers from North Carolina.

Thank you to everyone who joined us as we honored our friend, Sue Cunningham and helped raise money and awareness of the beautiful legacy Sue created.

We  hosted 2 shows at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Tequesta Florida to honor Sue and benefit Little Hickory Productions, parent company of Hickory Fest , a music festival that Sue Founded and produced for 13 years. Hickory Fest is an annual music festival, the third weekend of August, in Wellsboro, Pa. Little Hickory Productions, was established to promote Sue Cunningham's musical legacy by producing Hickory Fest and encouraging promising young musicians (through scholarship), to maximize their potential. Additionally, Little Hickory Productions distributes charitable contributions to causes close to Sue' heart.

Verlon Thompson

January 29th 2017

Verlon Thompson has been a close friend and musical collaborator with Sue for many years and we are very excited to have him back and performing in Sue's honor. Most recently Verlon and Sue were performing their Civil War 'operetta' written with Frank Serio, Find Your Angel: Verlon Thompson and Sue Cunningham, to audiences all around the country.

Verlon has been a professional songwriter and a traveling musician for over 30 years, both as a solo performer, and performing partner and co-writer with Texas American songwriting icon Guy Clark. His compositions have been recorded by Jimmy Buffett, Alan Jackson, Anne Murray, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Kenny Rogers, Randy Travis, Del McCoury, Sam Bush, Trisha Yearwood, Brooks and Dunn, Dierks Bentley and many more. Equally important in his songwriting and live performances, Verlon’s guitar proficiency has not gone unnoticed – his guitar can be heard on recordings by Restless Heart, Pam Tillis, and many more, including and especially Guy Clark.

Verlon, the quintessential troubadour, peerless guitar player and songwriter welcomes you into his "living room" for an unparalleled evening of music, stories and song!

***Verlon is going to perform "Find Your Angel" for the first time since Sue's passing, in it's entirety for us at Coffee House Showcase Concert Series, in addition to another set of Verlon originals!***

Refreshments and hors d'oeuvres will be available during the intermission.

All money raised by the Church of the Good Shepherd through your generous donations will go to the Sue Cunningham Memorial Fund.
